Margaret Ogola

Margaret Ogola, born on June second, nineteen fifty-eight, was a distinguished Kenyan physician and writer, renowned for her contributions to literature and medicine. As a pediatrician, she dedicated her life to the care of children, serving as the medical director of Cottolengo Hospice, a sanctuary for HIV and AIDS orphans. Her dual commitment to health and storytelling made her a unique figure in Kenyan society.

Ogola's literary prowess is best exemplified in her acclaimed novel, The River and the Source, which intricately weaves the lives of four generations of Kenyan women navigating a rapidly evolving society. This powerful narrative not only captivated readers but also earned a place on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education syllabus for many years. In recognition of her talent, she was awarded the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for best first book in the Africa Region in nineteen ninety-five.
