Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Margrethe II

Margrethe II, born on April sixteenth, nineteen forty, is a distinguished member of the Danish royal family who ascended to the throne as Queen of Denmark on January fourteenth, nineteen seventy-two. Her reign, which lasted for an impressive fifty-two years, makes her the second-longest-reigning Danish monarch, following Christian IV. Margrethe was born into the House of Glücksburg, a cadet branch of the House of Oldenburg, during the reign of her grandfather, King Christian X.

As the eldest child of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid, who was originally a Princess of Sweden, Margrethe became the heir presumptive in nineteen fifty-three when a constitutional amendment permitted women to inherit the throne. In nineteen sixty-seven, she married Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, and together they welcomed two sons, Frederik and Joachim. Margrethe succeeded her father upon his passing in January nineteen seventy-two.

Throughout her reign, Margrethe has also made a name for herself as a talented scenographer, costume designer, and illustrator, notably contributing to works by J. R. R. Tolkien. Her popularity and the support for the monarchy in Denmark grew steadily, reaching around eighty percent by the time of her abdication on January fourteenth, twenty twenty-four. Margrethe was succeeded by her elder son, Frederik X.
