Marguerite Laugier

Marguerite Laugier, born on September twelfth, eighteen ninety-six, was a pioneering French astronomer whose contributions to the field were significant during her tenure at the Nice Observatory from the 1930s to the 1950s. Known affectionately as 'Madame Laugier' in contemporary astronomical circles, she made remarkable strides in the discovery of celestial bodies.

Throughout her career, Laugier was credited with the discovery of twenty-one numbered asteroids, a feat accomplished between nineteen thirty-two and nineteen fifty-five. Her dedication to astronomy extended beyond her discoveries; she actively maintained correspondence with both professional and amateur astronomers worldwide, which is reflected in the naming of various asteroids in honor of her contacts.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Laugier was awarded the prestigious Lalande Prize in nineteen thirty-nine. Her legacy continues to be celebrated, particularly with the naming of the outer main-belt asteroid 1597 Laugier, discovered by Louis Boyer in nineteen forty-nine, which serves as a tribute to her contributions to the field.

It is important to note that Marguerite Laugier should not be confused with the male figure Paul Auguste Ernest Laugier, a literary figure from the nineteenth century, as the initial 'M.' in his name stands for 'Monsieur'.
