Mari Emmanuel, born on July 18, 1970, is a prominent Assyrian Australian presbyter and the bishop of Christ The Good Shepherd Church (CTGSC) located in Wakeley, New South Wales. His journey in the ecclesiastical realm began with his ordination as a bishop in the Ancient Church of the East in 2011. However, after facing excommunication in 2014, he took a bold step to establish an independent church in 2015, rooted in the Eastern Syriac tradition.
Emmanuel's sermons have gained significant traction, being live-streamed on both Facebook and YouTube, where he has cultivated a dedicated following. His online presence has led to the creation of fan pages that boast thousands of supporters, reflecting his influence and popularity within the community.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Emmanuel has participated in various interviews on conservative YouTube channels, where he has openly criticized homosexuality and the Australian COVID-19 policy, further solidifying his stance on contemporary issues.
Tragically, on April 15, 2024, Emmanuel was the victim of an Islamic extremist attack during a livestreamed sermon at his church, resulting in the loss of his right eye. This incident has not only highlighted the challenges faced by religious leaders but has also underscored Emmanuel's resilience in the face of adversity.
