Maria Damanaki

Maria Damanaki, born on May thirty-first, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished Greek politician and engineer. She has made significant contributions to the political landscape of Greece, notably as the former president of the Synaspismos party, which represents the left. Her political career also includes serving as a member of the Hellenic Parliament under the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, known as PASOK.

Beyond her political endeavors, Damanaki has taken on a vital role in environmental conservation. She served as the Global Managing Director for Oceans at The Nature Conservancy, where she led a dedicated global team. Her work focused on critical issues such as sustainable fisheries management, the large-scale protection and restoration of coral reefs, and enhancing coastal resilience.

In her capacity at The Nature Conservancy, Damanaki was instrumental in mapping and quantifying the full value of the world's oceans to humanity.
