Maria de Dominici

Maria de Dominici, born on December sixth, sixteen forty-five, was a remarkable Maltese artist known for her talents as a painter and sculptor. She was also a devoted Carmelite tertiary nun, embodying a unique blend of spirituality and creativity.

Hailing from a family steeped in artistic tradition in the city of Birgu, also known as Vittoriosa, Maria was the daughter of a skilled goldsmith who served as an appraiser for the Knights of Malta. This rich artistic heritage undoubtedly influenced her own creative pursuits.

Maria's legacy is further enriched by her familial connections; two of her brothers, Raimondo and Francesco de Dominici, were also accomplished painters. Notably, Raimondo's son, Bernardo, would later pen a contemporary art history book that included references to his talented aunt, ensuring that Maria's contributions to the art world would not be forgotten.
