María Guadalupe García Zavala, born Anastasia Guadalupe García Zavala on April twenty-seventh, eighteen seventy-eight, was a prominent Mexican Roman Catholic religious sister. She is celebrated as the co-founder of the Handmaids of Santa Margherita and the Poor, earning the affectionate title of 'Mother Lupita' among her followers.
Her journey into religious life was marked by a significant personal sacrifice; at one point, she was engaged to be married. However, feeling a profound calling to serve God, she chose to break off her engagement and dedicate her life to her faith and the care of the ill. Her compassion and unwavering faith became hallmarks of her ministry.
María Guadalupe's legacy continued to grow, leading to the initiation of her beatification cause in mid nineteen eighty-four. This process culminated in her formal beatification on April twenty-fifth, two thousand four. Her life of service and devotion was further honored when Pope Francis canonized her as a saint on May twelfth, two thousand thirteen, in a ceremony held in Saint Peter's Square.
