Maria Sharapova, born on April 19, 1987, is a renowned Russian former professional tennis player, model, and diplomat. She made her mark in the world of tennis by achieving the coveted title of world No. 1 in women's singles, a position she held for a remarkable twenty-one weeks. Throughout her illustrious career, Sharapova secured thirty-six WTA Tour-level singles titles, including five major championships, and was crowned the 2004 WTA Tour Championships winner.

Sharapova burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation, capturing the 2004 Wimbledon Championships at just seventeen years old, where she famously defeated two-time defending champion Serena Williams. This victory propelled her to the top of the rankings, making her the first Russian woman to achieve this feat in August 2005. Despite facing recurring injuries that affected her ranking, she continued to excel, clinching titles at the 2006 US Open and the 2008 Australian Open.

In a significant milestone, Sharapova completed her career Grand Slam by winning the 2012 French Open, which marked her return to the No. 1 position.
