Mariam Baouardy, also known as Mary of Jesus Crucified, was born on January fifth, eighteen forty-six, in the town of Hurfiesh, located in the upper Galilee. She later moved to I’billin, where she dedicated her life to serving the poor and those in need. Her profound commitment to her faith and community marked her as a significant figure in her time.
As a Discalced Carmelite nun of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, Mariam became renowned not only for her charitable works but also for her mystical experiences. She is remembered for having suffered the stigmata, a phenomenon that further deepened her spiritual journey and connection to Christ.
Mariam's legacy was honored when she was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November thirteenth, nineteen eighty-three. Her canonization followed on May seventeenth, twenty fifteen, by Pope Francis, solidifying her status as a revered saint in the Christian community.
