Marie Adélaïde of Savoy

Marie Adélaïde of Savoy, born on December sixth, sixteen eighty-five, was a prominent figure in the French royal court as the wife of Louis, Duke of Burgundy, who was the Dauphin of France. She was the eldest daughter of Victor Amadeus II, Duke of Savoy, and Anne Marie d'Orléans, linking her to significant European royal lineages.

Her marriage to the Duke of Burgundy was formalized through a betrothal in June sixteen ninety-six, a strategic alliance that was part of the Treaty of Turin, signed on August twenty-nine of the same year. This union not only solidified political ties but also positioned her as a key player in the French monarchy.

Marie Adélaïde became the mother of Louis XV, future King of France, and was styled as Duchess of Burgundy following her marriage. Her status elevated further when she became Dauphine of France after the death of her father-in-law, Louis, Grand Dauphin, in seventeen eleven.

Tragically, her life was cut short when she succumbed to measles in seventeen twelve, just a week before her husband passed away. Their untimely deaths marked a poignant moment in the history of the French royal family.
