Marie Uguay

Marie Uguay, born on April 22, 1955, in Ville-Émard, Quebec, was a talented French Canadian poet and diarist. Her literary journey began with the publication of her first poetry collection, Signe et rumeur, in 1976, which showcased her unique voice and perspective.

Despite facing significant challenges, including a diagnosis of bone cancer that led to the amputation of her right leg at the age of twenty-one, Uguay continued her studies in literature at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Her resilience and passion for writing shone through her work, even as she battled her illness.

Tragically, Marie Uguay passed away at the young age of twenty-six on October 26, 1981, due to cancer. Her legacy endures, as a cultural center in Ville-Émard was named in her honor after her death, which continues to serve the community and includes a public library.
