Marielle Goitschel, born on September twenty-eighth, nineteen forty-five, is a celebrated French former alpine skier and film actor. She is renowned not only for her remarkable achievements on the slopes but also as the younger sister of Christine Goitschel, another prominent skier of their era, and the aunt of speed skier Philippe Goitschel.
Her illustrious career began to take shape with a stunning performance at the 1962 World Championships, followed by the 1964 Winter Olympics, where she secured five medals, including three golds. This remarkable feat positioned her as the world's best female skier at the time. Marielle continued to showcase her dominance at the 1966 World Championships in Portillo, Chile, where she won medals in all four events, claiming three golds and one silver.
As the alpine skiing World Cup launched in January nineteen sixty-seven, expectations were high for Goitschel to continue her winning streak. Although she narrowly missed the overall title, finishing second to Nancy Greene of Canada, she excelled in the discipline cup for downhill and tied for first in slalom with her fellow French skier, Annie Famose. The following season saw her again fall short of the overall title, finishing fourth, yet she successfully defended her slalom championship.
Marielle's final Olympic triumph came at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, where she won her last gold medal in slalom. After this season, she retired from competitive skiing, leaving behind an impressive legacy of eleven World Championships medals, the second highest among women, trailing only Christl Cranz of Germany.
Notably, Marielle and her sister Christine made history as the first female siblings to share the Olympic podium in the same event, winning gold and silver in the Women's slalom at the 1964 Olympics, and repeating this achievement in the Women's giant slalom just two days later.
