Lessard quickly made a name for himself, recording four shutouts during the nineteen seventy-eight to seventy-nine season, a feat that placed him tied for second best in the league.

In nineteen eighty-one, Lessard earned recognition as an NHL second team All-Star and participated in the prestigious NHL All-Star Game. His career is perhaps most famously marked by his role as the Kings' goalie during the legendary Miracle on Manchester playoff game in April nineteen eighty-two. In this unforgettable match, the Kings staged a remarkable comeback from a five to zero deficit to defeat the Edmonton Oilers six to five in overtime.
