Mario Mandžukić, born on May 21, 1986, is a distinguished Croatian football coach and former player, renowned for his impactful role as a forward. His career commenced in 2004 at Marsonia, his hometown club, before he transitioned to NK Zagreb in 2005 and then to Dinamo Zagreb in 2007, where he emerged as the Croatian First League's top goalscorer during the 2008–09 season.
In 2010, Mandžukić made a significant move to VfL Wolfsburg, and two years later, he joined Bayern Munich. His tenure at Bayern was remarkable, as he played a pivotal role in securing the club's first continental treble, which included the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League titles. Notably, he became the first Croatian to score in a Champions League final. Following a domestic double in the subsequent season, he transferred to Atlético Madrid in 2014, and a year later, he signed with Juventus in Serie A.
While at Juventus, Mandžukić achieved considerable success, winning four league titles and three Coppa Italia titles, and he reached the Champions League final in 2017. His journey continued as he moved to Qatari club Al-Duhail in December 2019, before returning to Italy in January 2021 to play for AC Milan, where he ultimately retired in September of the same year.
On the international stage, Mandžukić made his debut for the Croatian national team in November 2007 under manager Slaven Bilić. He represented Croatia in four major tournaments, including Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup, Euro 2016, and the 2018 World Cup, where he helped lead the team to the final. With a total of eighty-nine international appearances and thirty-three goals, he ranks as the third-most prolific scorer in the history of the Croatian national team. His exceptional talent earned him the title of Croatian Footballer of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.
