Mark Abley

Mark Abley, born on May thirteenth, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished Canadian poet, journalist, editor, and nonfiction writer. His literary work is deeply influenced by his passion for endangered languages, a theme that resonates throughout his poetry and nonfiction books.

In recognition of his significant contributions to Canadian literature, Abley was honored with an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Saskatchewan in November twenty twenty-two. This accolade reflects his impactful writing career and dedication to the literary arts.

A Rhodes Scholar, Abley made Montreal his home in nineteen eighty-three, where he resided until twenty twenty-four. His memoir, 'The Organist: Fugues, Fatherhood, and a Fragile Mind,' published in two thousand nineteen, offers a poignant exploration of his relationship with his father. This was followed by 'Strange Bewildering Time: Istanbul to Kathmandu in the Last Year of the Hippie Trail' in twenty twenty-three, showcasing his literary travel experiences.
