Mark Hoppus, born on March fifteenth, nineteen seventy-two, is a prominent American musician and record producer, best known as the co-lead vocalist, co-founder, and bassist of the iconic rock band Blink-182. His journey into music began in junior high, where he developed a passion for skateboarding and punk rock. At the age of fifteen, he received a bass guitar from his father, which set the stage for his future in music.
In nineteen ninety-two, Hoppus moved to San Diego to attend California State University San Marcos, where he met Tom DeLonge through his sister. Together with drummer Scott Raynor, they formed Blink-182, which quickly gained traction in the music scene. The band released several rock recordings and toured extensively before signing with major label MCA, leading to the release of their sophomore album, Dude Ranch, in nineteen ninety-seven, featuring the hit single “Dammit,” penned by Hoppus.
After the departure of Raynor and the addition of drummer Travis Barker, Blink-182 achieved multi-platinum success with their album Enema of the State in nineteen ninety-nine. This was followed by the heavier Take Off Your Pants and Jacket in two thousand one and the more experimental untitled fifth album in two thousand three. However, internal tensions led to the band's split in two thousand five. Hoppus continued to collaborate with Barker in the band +44 during the late two thousands.
In two thousand nine, Blink-182 reunited and has since continued to record and tour worldwide. Beyond his musical endeavors, Hoppus has made a name for himself as a producer, working with various bands such as Idiot Pilot, New Found Glory, and Motion City Soundtrack. He has also ventured into business, co-owning Atticus and Macbeth Footwear, and launching a clothing line called Hi My Name is Mark in two thousand twelve. Hoppus hosted a weekly podcast from two thousand five to two thousand six, which returned in two thousand fifteen, and he had his own television talk show, Hoppus on Music, from two thousand ten to two thousand twelve. Additionally, he was part of the pop rock duo Simple Creatures from two thousand nineteen until two thousand twenty.
