Mark Robins, born on December twenty-second, nineteen sixty-nine, is a distinguished English football manager and former player, currently at the helm of EFL Championship club Stoke City. Renowned for his prowess as a striker, Robins made a significant impact during his time in the Premier League, particularly with Manchester United, Norwich City, and Leicester City.
Robins began his professional journey with Manchester United, where he notably scored a crucial goal against Nottingham Forest in the nineteen eighty-nine to ninety FA Cup tie, a moment often credited with 'saving' manager Alex Ferguson's career at Old Trafford. Following his tenure at United, he played for several clubs including Norwich, Leicester, Reading, Manchester City, Walsall, Rotherham United, Bristol City, and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as enjoying spells in Europe with Copenhagen, Ourense, and Panionios, before concluding his playing career at Burton Albion in the Conference National.
Transitioning into management, Robins took charge of Rotherham United in two thousand seven, later managing Barnsley from two thousand nine until two thousand eleven. After a brief stint at Coventry City from two thousand twelve to two thousand thirteen, he moved to Huddersfield Town, leaving in two thousand fourteen. He then managed Scunthorpe United before returning to Coventry City in March two thousand seventeen.
During his second spell with Coventry, Robins achieved notable success, winning the EFL Trophy and leading the team to promotion to League One as champions in the nineteen nineteen to twenty season. His leadership saw Coventry finish eighth in League One in the following season and secure a respectable twelfth place in the Championship in the twenty twenty-one to twenty-two season. The twenty twenty-two to twenty-three season was particularly memorable, as he guided Coventry to a fifth-place finish, reaching the promotion play-offs, although they were narrowly defeated by Luton Town in the final.
In the twenty twenty-three to twenty-four season, Robins led Coventry to the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since nineteen eighty-seven, where they faced his former club Manchester United. After leaving Coventry in November twenty twenty-four, he was appointed manager of Stoke City in January twenty twenty-five, marking the next chapter in his illustrious career.
