Mark Rutte

Mark Rutte, born on February 14, 1967, is a prominent Dutch politician and historian who has made significant contributions to the political landscape of the Netherlands. He served as the prime minister from 2010 to 2024, making him the longest-serving prime minister in Dutch history. Rutte's political journey began after a career in business management with Unilever, transitioning into national politics in 2002 as a member of Jan Peter Balkenende's cabinet.

In 2006, Rutte became the leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and led the party to victory in the 2010 general election. His tenure as prime minister was marked by a series of coalition governments, including a notable second cabinet with the Labour Party that completed a full four-year term, a first since 1998. Despite facing challenges, including an early government collapse in 2012, Rutte's ability to navigate complex political landscapes allowed him to return to power.
