Kristal's international career is noteworthy; he made his debut in Estonia's first official match post-independence on June third, nineteen ninety-two, in a draw against Slovenia. He became the first Estonian player to reach one hundred appearances for the national team in two thousand one, ultimately amassing a total of one hundred forty-three caps and scoring nine goals.
