Markos Botsaris, born in 1786, was a distinguished military officer and a prominent figure in the Greek War of Independence. As a Souliot chieftain, he emerged as a key leader within the revolutionary army, demonstrating exceptional bravery and strategic acumen.

His most notable contribution came during the First Siege of Missolonghi, where he played a crucial role in the efforts to relieve the besieged city between 1822 and 1823. His leadership and valor earned him the title of General of Western Greece, bestowed upon him by the revolutionary Greek government.

Tragically, Botsaris met his end during the Battle of Karpenisi, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the cause of Greek independence. Following his death, he was honored with a burial in Missolonghi, where he was laid to rest with full military honors.
