Markus Heikkinen

Markus Heikkinen, affectionately known as Mako, was born on 13 October 1978 in Finland. He is a distinguished former professional footballer who made his mark primarily as a centre back and defensive midfielder. His career spanned several notable clubs, showcasing his versatility and skill on the pitch.

Heikkinen's football journey began with Oulun Palloseura (OPS) before he moved on to play for Turun Palloseura (TPS) and MyPa. His talent soon caught the attention of larger clubs, leading him to HJK Helsinki, Portsmouth, Aberdeen, Luton Town, Rapid Wien, and Start. Each of these stints contributed to his development as a player and solidified his reputation in the football community.

After a successful playing career, Heikkinen returned to his roots, concluding his professional journey with AC Oulu. His deep connection to his hometown club was further solidified when he took on the role of sporting director for the Veikkausliiga side, where he continues to influence the sport in Finland.
