Marc Steven Bell, widely recognized as Marky Ramone, was born on July 15, 1952. An influential figure in the music scene, he began his career as a drummer in hard rock bands around New York City, including notable acts like Dust and Estus. His talent caught the attention of the punk rock community, leading him to join Richard Hell and the Voidoids as their drummer.
In 1978, Marky Ramone became the drummer for the legendary punk band the Ramones, stepping in to replace Tommy Ramone. His tenure with the band spanned from 1978 to 1983 and again from 1987 to 1996, making him their longest-serving drummer. Throughout his career, he has also contributed his drumming skills to various punk rock and heavy metal bands, including his own project, Marky Ramone and the Intruders.
As of 2025, Marky is one of the three surviving members of the Ramones, alongside Richie Ramone and C.J. Ramone. He remains dedicated to preserving the band's legacy, actively touring with his band Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, bringing the spirit of the Ramones to fans around the globe.
Residing in Brooklyn Heights with his wife, Marion Flynn, Marky Ramone continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
