Maroš Šefčovič, born on July twenty-four, nineteen sixty-six, is a prominent Slovak diplomat and politician currently serving as the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security; Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency in the Von der Leyen Commission II, a role he has held since twenty twenty-four.
His extensive career in the European Commission began in two thousand nine, and he has held various significant positions, including European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth from two thousand nine to two thousand ten, and European Commissioner for Energy from two thousand fourteen to two thousand nineteen. Notably, he served as the Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal from twenty twenty-three to twenty twenty-four.
Šefčovič has also been a key figure in interinstitutional relations, having served as Vice-President of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations from two thousand ten to two thousand fourteen and again from two thousand nineteen onwards. His political journey included a candidacy in the two thousand nineteen Slovak presidential election, where he was defeated by Zuzana Čaputová.
