During the 2008 Olympic Trials, Hooker made headlines by becoming the fifth-fastest woman in history under any conditions, clocking a wind-aided time of ten point seventy-six seconds in the first heat of the 100 meters quarterfinals. This achievement solidified her status as a formidable competitor in the sprinting world.

In June two thousand six, Hooker made the pivotal decision to forgo her final season of collegiate eligibility to embark on a professional track and field career. An eight-time All-American, she left the University of Texas as one of the most celebrated student-athletes in the program's history, having played a crucial role in securing Texas's fourth NCAA outdoor title during the 2005 season.

Hooker’s collegiate accolades include becoming UT's third NCAA 100-meter champion, a title she claimed with a time of eleven point fourteen seconds, marking the first victory in this event for the university since nineteen ninety-one.
