Martha Cartmell

Martha Cartmell, born on December fourteenth, eighteen forty-five, was a pioneering Canadian Methodist and United Church missionary who dedicated her life to education in Japan.

In eighteen eighty-four, she established the Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin school, a significant institution that has evolved into what is now known as Toyo Eiwa University. Her commitment to education and empowerment of women in Japan left a lasting legacy.
