Martha Hall Findlay, born on August seventeenth, nineteen fifty-nine, is a distinguished Canadian lawyer, entrepreneur, and politician. Currently, she holds the position of Director and James S. and Barbara A. Palmer Chair at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. Her extensive career includes serving as the president and CEO of the Canada West Foundation, a prominent think tank based in Calgary, and as senior vice-president and Chief Sustainability Officer at Suncor Energy.
Findlay's political journey began when she was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as the Liberal Party candidate for the Toronto riding of Willowdale during a federal by-election on March seventeenth, two thousand eight. She successfully retained her seat in the subsequent 2008 general election but faced defeat in the 2011 election.
Before her tenure in the House of Commons, she was the Liberal Party's candidate for Newmarket—Aurora in the two thousand four federal election, where she narrowly lost to Conservative candidate Belinda Stronach. Additionally, she was the first declared candidate for the Liberal Party leadership election following Paul Martin's departure in two thousand six and participated in the two thousand thirteen leadership race.
