Martha P. Haynes

Martha P. Haynes, born in nineteen fifty-one, is a prominent American astronomer renowned for her expertise in radio astronomy and extragalactic astronomy. Currently, she holds the esteemed position of distinguished professor of arts and sciences in astronomy at Cornell University, where she has made significant contributions to the field.

Throughout her illustrious career, Haynes has actively participated in various high-level committees within both the US and international astronomical communities. Notably, she served on the advisory committee for the Division of Engineering and Physical Sciences of the National Academies from two thousand three to two thousand eight, and she was involved in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Decadal Review in two thousand ten.

Her leadership roles extend to her tenure as vice-president of the executive committee of the International Astronomical Union from two thousand six to two thousand twelve.
