Martha Root

Martha Root, born on August tenth, eighteen seventy-two, was a prominent American figure in the early twentieth century, known for her dedication as an Esperantist and a traveling teacher of the Baháʼí Faith. Her journey began in nineteen oh nine, marking the start of a remarkable thirty-year commitment to spreading her beliefs across the globe.

Throughout her lifetime, Root circumnavigated the world four times, earning recognition for her tireless efforts. Shoghi Effendi, the then head of the Baháʼí Faith, honored her posthumously as 'the foremost travel teacher in the first Baháʼí Century' and designated her as a Hand of the Cause, a title reflecting her significant contributions to the faith.

Root's influence extended beyond religious circles; she was known for her interactions with various heads of state and public figures. Among her notable encounters was her meeting with Queen Marie of Romania, who is recognized as the first royal to embrace the teachings of Baháʼu'lláh. This pivotal moment underscored Root's role in bridging cultural and spiritual divides.
