Martial Célestin

Martial Célestin, born on October 4, 1913, in Ganthier, was a multifaceted individual who made significant contributions to Haitian society as a politician, diplomat, lawyer, and teacher. His legal background laid the foundation for his political career, which saw him rise to prominence in the late 1980s.

In February 1988, Célestin was appointed Prime Minister of Haiti by President Leslie Manigat, following the provisions of the 1987 Constitution. His appointment was confirmed by the Parliament that emerged from the elections held on January 17, 1988. This period marked a hopeful chapter in Haiti's tumultuous political landscape.

However, Célestin's tenure was short-lived, as he was deposed in a coup d'état on June 20, 1988. Despite the challenges he faced, his commitment to public service and education remained evident throughout his life.

Martial Célestin passed away on February 4, 2011, at the remarkable age of ninety-seven, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to his country and its people.
