Marwan al-Shehhi

Marwan al-Shehhi, born on May ninth, nineteen seventy-eight, was an Emirati national who became infamously known as a terrorist hijacker for al-Qaeda. He played a pivotal role as the hijacker-pilot of United Airlines Flight 175, which was tragically crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center during the September eleventh attacks.

Al-Shehhi's journey began in the United Arab Emirates, where he pursued a degree in applied sciences. At the age of eighteen, he relocated to Germany to further his education. It was there that he met fellow students Mohamed Atta and Ziad Jarrah, and together they formed the Hamburg cell, a group that would later orchestrate the September eleventh attacks with the support of Ramzi bin al-Shibh.

In late nineteen ninety-nine, the Hamburg cell received invitations to al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan, where they met Osama bin Laden. Following their training, al-Shehhi arrived in the United States in May two thousand, a month ahead of Atta. He, along with Atta and Jarrah, trained as pilots in Florida, obtaining their commercial pilot licenses by early two thousand one.

As the date of the attacks approached, al-Shehhi meticulously prepared by coordinating with other hijackers and conducting surveillance flights. On September ninth, two thousand one, he traveled to Boston, where he stayed until the fateful day. After boarding United Airlines Flight 175, he and his accomplices executed their plan, with al-Shehhi taking control of the aircraft and crashing it into the South Tower at nine oh three AM, making him the youngest hijacker-pilot involved in the attacks.

The impact of the Boeing 767 was broadcast live, shocking viewers worldwide. The South Tower collapsed at nine fifty-nine AM, after burning for fifty-six minutes, resulting in the tragic loss of around nine hundred lives, including office workers and first responders.
