Mary Daly

Mary Daly, born on October sixteenth, nineteen twenty-eight, was a prominent American radical feminist philosopher and theologian. Known for her unapologetic stance as a 'radical lesbian feminist', she dedicated a significant portion of her career to academia, teaching at the Jesuit-run Boston College for thirty-three years.

Initially a practicing Roman Catholic, Daly's relationship with Christianity evolved dramatically, leading her to disavow the faith by the early nineteen seventies. Her academic journey was marked by a commitment to women's rights and a critical examination of patriarchal structures within religious contexts.

In nineteen ninety-nine, Daly's tenure at Boston College came to an abrupt end when she was dismissed for violating university policy. Her refusal to allow male students in her advanced women's studies classes sparked controversy and highlighted her radical approach to feminist education.
