Mary Greyeyes, born on November fourteenth, nineteen twenty, was a trailblazing Canadian servicewoman who made history as the first First Nations woman to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. A proud member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, her journey began when she joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps in nineteen forty-two.
During her service, Greyeyes became an iconic figure, captured in an internationally renowned army publicity photograph. Her contributions took her overseas to London, England, where she had the unique opportunity to meet notable public figures, including King George VI and his daughter, Elizabeth.
Greyeyes served in London until her discharge in nineteen forty-six, after which she returned to her homeland of Canada. Her legacy as a pioneer for Indigenous women in the military continues to inspire future generations.
