Maryam al-Khawaja

Maryam al-Khawaja, born on June twenty-six, nineteen eighty-seven, is a prominent Bahraini-Danish human rights defender and activist. As the daughter of renowned human rights advocate Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, she has inherited a legacy of commitment to social justice and human rights.

Currently serving as the Special Advisor on Advocacy with the Gulf Center for Human Rights (GCHR), Maryam plays a crucial role in promoting human rights initiatives. Her expertise extends to consulting for various non-governmental organizations, where she leverages her knowledge and experience to effect change.

In addition to her work with GCHR, Maryam is an active board member of the International Service for Human Rights and No Hiding Place. Her leadership is further exemplified by her position as Vice Chair on the Board of the Urgent Action Fund, where she advocates for urgent responses to human rights violations.
