Masaaki Yuasa

Masaaki Yuasa, born on March sixteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished Japanese screenwriter, animator, and film director known for his unique artistic vision. He co-founded the animation studio Science SARU in two thousand thirteen alongside producer Eunyoung Choi, where he served as president until two thousand twenty. Yuasa's career began in animation, contributing to iconic series such as Chibi Maruko-chan and Crayon Shin-chan, before he transitioned to directing with the acclaimed feature film Mind Game in two thousand four.

Throughout the two thousands and early twenty-tens, Yuasa made significant strides in television, directing notable series like Kemonozume, Kaiba, and The Tatami Galaxy. His crowdfunded short film Kick-Heart in two thousand thirteen marked a pivotal moment, leading to the establishment of Science SARU. The studio's innovative works and enhanced international distribution propelled Yuasa into the spotlight as one of Japan's leading independent creators.

At Science SARU, Yuasa directed a variety of projects, including an episode of Adventure Time, and feature films such as Ping Pong the Animation, Night Is Short, Walk On Girl, and Devilman Crybaby. His productions have garnered international acclaim, winning prestigious awards from Annecy, the Japan Academy Film Prize, and the Japan Media Arts Festival. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he received the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon from the Japanese government.

Yuasa's latest endeavor, the musical drama Inu-Oh, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September twenty twenty-one and was released worldwide in August twenty twenty-two. This film marked a significant milestone as it was his first to be nominated for a Golden Globe, further solidifying his status as a visionary in the animation industry.
