Matilda Ridout Edgar

Matilda Ridout Edgar, born on September twenty-ninth, eighteen forty-four, was a prominent Canadian historian and a passionate advocate for women's rights. Initially known as Matilda Ridout, she embraced the name Matilda Edgar after her marriage, and later became Lady Edgar in eighteen ninety-eight when her husband received a knighthood.

As a mother of nine children, Matilda's journey into historical research and writing began in her forties, showcasing her dedication to both her family and her intellectual pursuits. Throughout her lifetime, she authored three significant books and was diligently working on a fourth at the time of her passing.
