Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels, born on December 16, 1988, is a distinguished former professional footballer from Germany, renowned for his exceptional skills as a centre-back. Throughout his career, he earned a reputation as one of the finest defenders of his generation, celebrated for his remarkable tackling, sharp anticipation, and ability to score goals, complemented by his precise crosses.

Hummels began his football journey at the Bayern Munich youth academy, where he honed his talents before embarking on a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund in January 2008. His official transfer to Dortmund occurred in February 2009 for a fee of four million euros. After a successful tenure, he returned to Bayern Munich in 2016, where he enjoyed a triumphant period, winning the Bundesliga in every season he played there.

After making over five hundred appearances for Dortmund, Hummels contributed to the club's success by winning the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal twice. He also played a pivotal role in the team's journey to the UEFA Champions League finals in 2013 and 2024. Following a season with Roma in Italy, he announced his retirement from professional football in 2025.

On the international stage, Hummels represented the Germany national team from 2010 to 2023, earning over seventy caps. He was a key player in the squad that triumphed at the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and participated in the tournaments of 2018, as well as the UEFA European Championships in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
