Matthew Whitaker

Matthew Whitaker, born on October twenty-ninth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a prominent American lawyer, politician, and diplomat. He currently serves as the twenty-sixth United States ambassador to NATO, a position he has held since April two thousand twenty-five under the second administration of President Donald Trump. A dedicated member of the Republican Party, Whitaker previously made headlines as the acting United States attorney general from November two thousand eighteen to February two thousand nineteen, stepping in after Jeff Sessions' resignation.

Whitaker's career began to take shape during his time at the University of Iowa, where he not only pursued his studies but also played tight end for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes football team, contributing to their appearance in the 1991 Rose Bowl. His political journey began in earnest in two thousand two when he was the Republican nominee for Treasurer of Iowa, although he was ultimately defeated by the incumbent, Michael Fitzgerald.

From two thousand four to two thousand nine, Whitaker served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, gaining a reputation for his vigorous prosecution of drug traffickers. His nomination as ambassador to NATO was announced by Donald Trump on November twentieth, two thousand twenty-four, and he was confirmed by the Senate on April first, two thousand twenty-five, marking a significant milestone in his diplomatic career.
