Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt, born on August 12, 1999, is a prominent Dutch professional footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Manchester United and the Netherlands national team. Renowned for his aggressive tackling, aerial prowess, leadership qualities, and physical strength, De Ligt has established himself as one of the top defenders in the sport.

De Ligt's journey in professional football began with Ajax, where he made his senior debut in September 2016 during a cup match against Willem II. His remarkable talent was evident early on, as he scored from a corner just twenty-five minutes into the game, making him the club's second-youngest goalscorer, following the legendary Clarence Seedorf. His ascent continued when he became the youngest player to appear in a significant European final at the age of seventeen years and two hundred eighty-five days, starting against Manchester United in the Europa League final on May 24, 2017.

In December 2018, De Ligt's exceptional performances earned him the prestigious Golden Boy award, recognizing him as the best footballer in Europe under the age of twenty-one, a milestone that made him the first defender to receive this honor.
