Maureen George

Maureen George, born on September first, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished former field hockey player from Zimbabwe. She is best known for her remarkable contribution to the national team that achieved an extraordinary feat at the nineteen eighty Summer Olympics held in Moscow.

In a unique turn of events, the Women's Field Hockey Tournament at the Olympics saw only one competing team due to the boycott by the United States and several other nations. The hosting USSR team was set to face off against a hastily assembled Zimbabwean squad, which was put together in less than a week following a late request from the government.
