Maurice L'Abbé, a distinguished Canadian mathematician, was born on May twentieth, nineteen twenty, in Ottawa, Ontario. He embarked on his academic journey at the Université de Montréal, where he earned his license in mathematics in nineteen forty-five. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Princeton University, where he obtained his doctorate in mathematics in nineteen fifty.
Upon returning to Canada, L'Abbé joined the faculty of science at the Université de Montréal. His dedication and expertise quickly propelled him through the ranks, becoming an associate professor in nineteen fifty and achieving full professorship by nineteen fifty-six. His leadership skills were evident as he took on the role of director of the Department of Mathematics from nineteen fifty-seven to nineteen sixty-eight.
In addition to his directorial role, L'Abbé served as the dean of the Faculty of Science from nineteen sixty-four to nineteen sixty-eight and later as Vice-Rector for Research from nineteen sixty-eight to nineteen seventy-eight.
