Maximilian de Angelis

Maximilian de Angelis, born on October 2, 1889, was a prominent figure in the military landscape of Nazi Germany during World War II. As a general in the Wehrmacht, he played a significant role in the conflict and was recognized for his leadership and valor, earning the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves.

Following the war, de Angelis faced the consequences of his actions. On April 4, 1946, he was extradited to Yugoslavia, where he was sentenced to twenty years for war crimes. This marked the beginning of a tumultuous period in his life, as he was subsequently extradited to the Soviet Union.

In the Soviet Union, de Angelis received a harsh sentence of two times twenty-five years. Despite the severity of his punishment, he was released in 1955, allowing him to return to Germany. His post-war life remains a subject of interest, reflecting the complexities of a military career intertwined with the moral dilemmas of war.
