Maximilian III Joseph, born on 28 March 1727, was a prominent figure in the Holy Roman Empire, serving as the Prince-elector and Duke of Bavaria from 1745 until his untimely death in 1777. Known affectionately as 'the much beloved,' he was the last of the Bavarian branch of the illustrious House of Wittelsbach.
