Lorenzo Jerald Patterson, widely recognized by his stage name MC Ren, is a prominent figure in the American hip-hop scene, born on June 14, 1969, in Compton, California. As a rapper, songwriter, and record producer, he has made significant contributions to the genre, particularly as a founding member of the influential group N.W.A.

MC Ren's journey in music began in the late 1980s when he signed as a solo artist with Eazy-E's Ruthless Records while still in high school. His talent quickly became evident, as he penned nearly half of the tracks on Eazy-Duz-It. By 1988, he had officially joined N.W.A, where he played a crucial role in the creation of two albums and one EP, solidifying the group's legacy in hip-hop history.

After N.W.A disbanded in 1991, MC Ren continued to thrive under Ruthless Records, releasing three solo albums, including the notable Shock of the Hour in 1993, which sparked considerable discussion due to its provocative content. In 1998, he departed from the label, marking a new chapter in his career.

MC Ren's impact on music was recognized in 2016 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A. His accolades continued in 2024 when he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his enduring influence in the industry. He accepted this prestigious honor alongside fellow N.W.A members Ice Cube, DJ Yella, The D.O.C., and Lil Eazy-E, highlighting the group's lasting legacy.
