Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti, born on May twenty-second, nineteen fifty-nine, is a prominent Indian politician and lawyer, known for her leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP). She made history by becoming the first female chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, serving from April fourth, two thousand sixteen, to June nineteenth, two thousand eighteen.

During her tenure, Mufti formed a coalition government with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), showcasing her ability to navigate complex political landscapes. However, her time in office came to an end when the BJP withdrew from the coalition, leading to her resignation in June two thousand eighteen.

In addition to her role as chief minister, Mufti has been an influential figure in Indian politics, representing Anantnag in the sixteenth Lok Sabha and previously in the fourteenth Lok Sabha from two thousand four to two thousand nine. She also held the position of Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, further solidifying her political credentials.

Following the revocation of Article three hundred seventy of the Indian Constitution in August two thousand nineteen, Mufti faced significant challenges, including detention without charges and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.
