Mehdi Bazargan

Mehdi Bazargan, born on September first, nineteen oh seven, was a prominent Iranian politician, engineer, and scholar. He played a pivotal role in the Iranian Revolution of nineteen seventy-nine, emerging as a key figure in the pro-democracy movement that sought to reshape the political landscape of Iran.

In February nineteen seventy-nine, Bazargan was appointed as the first prime minister of Iran following the revolution, a position bestowed upon him by Ayatollah Khomeini. His leadership during this tumultuous period was marked by a commitment to democratic principles and a vision for a new Iran.

However, his tenure was short-lived. In November of the same year, he resigned in protest against the takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Iran, a significant event that underscored the challenges faced by his government. Bazargan's resignation was not only a personal stand against the crisis but also an acknowledgment of the difficulties in navigating the political upheaval of the time.

Beyond his political career, Bazargan was also an academic, serving as the head of the first engineering department at the University of Tehran. His contributions to education and engineering have left a lasting impact on the academic community in Iran.
