Melanie Joy

She is best known for coining the term 'carnism,' which describes the invisible belief system that conditions people to eat certain animals while viewing others as companions.

As the founding president of the nonprofit organization Beyond Carnism, formerly known as the Carnism Awareness & Action Network (CAAN), Joy has dedicated her career to raising awareness about the ethical implications of our food choices.
