Mélissa Laveaux, born on January ninth, nineteen eighty-five, is a talented independent Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist of Haitian descent. Known for her unique blend of roots, folk, and blues, she captivates audiences with her signature percussive finger-style guitar and soulful vocals. Laveaux's musical journey began in earnest in two thousand six when she released her first full-length album, co-produced with percussionist Rob Reid and Lisa Patterson of Imaginit Music Studios.
Throughout her career, Laveaux has garnered critical acclaim, receiving praise from notable publications such as ColorLines. Her song 'Koud'lo' earned her the Songs from the Heart award at the two thousand six Ontario Council of Folk Festivals' conference in the World Music category. She has had the honor of opening for influential artists like Meshell Ndegeocello, Feist, and Lura, showcasing her talent on stages around the world.
While most of her performances have taken place in France, Laveaux has also made a name for herself in Japan and Spain.
