Menzies Campbell

Menzies Campbell, born on May 22, 1941, was a multifaceted individual who made significant contributions as a politician, sprinter, and lawyer. He served as the Member of Parliament for North East Fife from 1987 until 2015, during which he held various prominent roles, including deputy leader under Charles Kennedy and leading the party from 2006 to 2007.

Before embarking on his political career, Campbell was a celebrated athlete. In the mid-1960s, he captained the Great Britain athletics team and set the British record for the 100 meters, a title he held from 1967 to 1974. His athletic prowess laid a strong foundation for his later endeavors.

Academically, Campbell was well-versed, having studied law at both the University of Glasgow and Stanford University. He was called to the Scottish Bar and later achieved the esteemed title of Queen's Counsel, showcasing his legal expertise.

In 2006, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of St Andrews, a role he held with distinction until his passing in 2025. Additionally, he was made a life peer in 2015, further solidifying his legacy in both academia and politics.
