Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Meredith McGrath

Meredith McGrath, born on April 28, 1971, in Midland, Michigan, is a former professional tennis player who made her mark on the WTA Tour starting in 1988. Over her eight-year career, she achieved remarkable success, reaching career-high world rankings of No. 18 in singles and No. 4 in doubles. Notably, she secured victories against tennis legends such as Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis, and Anna Kournikova.

The highlight of McGrath's career came during the 1996 Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the singles semifinals and the doubles finals. In the doubles final, she led with a score of seven-five and five-two before ultimately losing to the duo of Suková and Hingis. In singles, she triumphed over players like Mana Endo and Amanda Coetzer before being defeated by Arantxa Sánchez Vicario. Unfortunately, an injury just weeks before Wimbledon marked the end of her professional journey.

Throughout her career, Meredith won three WTA singles titles, including Oklahoma City and Eastbourne in 1994, and Birmingham in 1996. She also claimed twenty-five doubles titles and was recognized as the WTA Comeback Player of the Year in 1994 and again in 1996 after overcoming significant injuries. Her mixed doubles victory at the 1995 US Open and her runner-up finish in the 1989 event further solidified her status in the sport.

Before turning professional, McGrath excelled at Stanford University, where she earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles during her only collegiate season. She maintained impressive rankings, achieving No. 2 in singles and No. 1 in doubles. After her early retirement due to injuries, she returned to Stanford to complete her degree in 2000. Her contributions to tennis have been recognized with her induction into the Stanford Hall of Fame in 2012, as well as memberships in the USTA Midwest and NorCal Halls of Fame.

As a junior player, McGrath was ranked No. 1 in the world and won a total of nineteen national and international titles. She captured the US Open junior doubles title and the Wimbledon junior doubles title alongside Jennifer Capriati in 1989. Additionally, she was a three-time national All-American in high school, winning three Michigan High School Division A State Championships and receiving six USTA National Championship Sportsmanship Awards.
