Mia Mottley

Mia Mottley, born on October first, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished Barbadian politician and lawyer who has made history as the eighth prime minister of Barbados since two thousand eighteen. She is also the Leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), a position she has held since two thousand eight, making her the first woman to occupy both roles. Under her leadership, Barbados transitioned from a monarchy to a republic, marking a significant milestone in the nation's history.

Since nineteen ninety-four, Mottley has represented the constituency of Saint Michael North East as a Member of Parliament. Her political career includes a series of ministerial roles, notably serving as the Attorney-General of Barbados, where she became the first woman to be appointed to this critical position. Mottley has also held the position of Leader of the Opposition in the House of Assembly, first from two thousand eight to two thousand ten and again from two thousand thirteen to two thousand eighteen. In the two thousand eighteen general election, she led her party to a historic landslide victory, securing all thirty seats in the House and achieving seventy-two point eight percent of the popular vote, the most successful election performance in Barbadian political history. This success was replicated in the two thousand twenty-two general election, where the BLP again won all thirty seats.

In the two thousand twenty-six general election, Mottley continued her remarkable streak, winning a third term with her party claiming all thirty seats for a third consecutive landslide victory. As of two thousand twenty-six, she holds the distinction of being the longest-serving sitting female head of state or government in the world, a testament to her enduring influence and leadership in Barbadian politics.
